Streets of Adelaide

On a recent trip to Adelaide I found the time to wander around town to grab some building shots.

The majority of these are on the University of Adelaide campus within the city, easily the best looking campus I’ve visited.

On top of the world

The Story Bridge is a cantilever bridge which spans the Brisbane River from Kangaroo Point across to Fortitude Valley.

The bridge opened in 1940 and was named after John Douglas Story who was a public servant at the time who advocated strongly for the bridge. The design was based on a similar bridge in Montreal Canada which was completed 10 years earlier. In 2005, bridge climbs commenced allowing people to climb the 80 metres up the bridge, making it only one of three bridge climbs currently on offer around the world.

Last month I completed the photographic climb up the bridge after a previous climb last year was cancelled due to a lightning storm. This one was also almost cancelled due to a storm, but thankfully we managed to squeeze it in and finish just as the rain started.

Climbers are allowed to take one camera and one lens onto the bridge, which is securely fastened to your climbing belt in case of butter fingers. I decided to take the 17-35mm lens for this trip, which provided some pretty wide images. I’m looking at doing this climb again, however for the next one I’ll look at either a 14-24 or 16mm fish to get some really wide and distorted shots.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas really is a photographer’s paradise. The only downside is, sometimes there are so many things to do or look at, that occassionally you forget to put the camera to the eye and take a photo.

Images to follow below, video has been uploaded to Facebook (don’t forget to hit the ‘Like’ button at the top to follow the page, as there are items I post there that don’t make it to this site).
