Revisiting the old wreck
Back in February of this year I found a beautiful wreck of a car on the side of the road out past Dayboro. I took a quick HDR shot of the car and promised myself to return and do the car some justice with a more organised shoot.
Well I completely forgot about it, until I was driving home from shooting some sunset landscapes out near Mt Mee, and drove straight past the car. Again, I decided to stop and take a quick photo, again failing to do this beautiful wreck any justice. On this occasion, the sun had already set, so I set up a flash off to the side and dragged the shutter in order to capture some of the colour in the sky. Unfortunately I only had the one flash on me, so again, I made myself a promise to return in the near future to shoot this location again, and to finally give this old girl the attention she deserves.
Mt Mee Sunset
Well this may just have been an excuse to spend a fun couple of hours driving along the mountain roads in my new car, but I decided to shoot a sunset over one of the valleys at the top of Mt Mee. Mt Mee is located just north of Dayboro on the D’Aguilar Range.
The cloud formation mid-afternoon was looking promising for a glorious sunset, but the wind picked up and dispersed them about half an hour before sunset. Even though I’m still happy with these images, I was rather hoping for a rich red sunset over the green fields of grass. Maybe next time, and the fun part is, I get to drive those roads again.
A little HDR carnival…
A small ‘side show alley’ was set up at the Paaniyiri Greek Festival on the weekend. The carnival atmosphere was just begging for some over the top HDR effects.

Koloa Sugar Mill
The Koloa Sugar Mill on the island of Kauai was constructed back in 1898. After closing down the buildings were left to rust and decay, to the extent the site was set for demolition, in fact this may have already occurred.
Staff from DLWS spent about 18 months making arrangements for us to have permission to enter and photograph the site. We were allowed free reign in the open areas, but were restricted to the one room inside the structure. That one room was virtually pitch black, resulting in some very long exposures. The decay and grunge of the room cried out for HDR, so naturally I obliged.
